„200 years after the birth of Frederic Chopin, his music has overtaken all the continents, while a recording of the composer’s music was sent to a space station”. The above conclusion, made by the outstanding Polish Chopinologist, Professor Irena Poniatowska, is found in an article opening a collection of texts on the reception of Chopin’s art in Poland, Europe and all over the world over the past two centuries. Following the traces leading to and from Chopin’s oeuvre as well as the echoes of the ideas and values embodied in his music means having to cover various areas of musical culture: composition and its stylistic conditions, musical performance, musical criticism, and theoretical reflection. The authors of the articles, while describing the multiple forms of the radiating of Chopin’s music, focused their attention mainly on explaining the character of relations between his art and the music of the country they represent: Russia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria, France, and Poland. Due to this fact, not only did the panorama of the topics discussed turn out to be wide and diverse, but also the forms of the resonating of Chopin’s heritage characteristic of particular environments did manifest themselves. Following them in individual articles may become a source of significant reflection as well as inspiration for further exploration of the chosen threads of Chopin’s reception.
